Winter Nelis pear tree was raised from seed by Jean Charles Nelis, Mechlin, Belgium, early in the nineteenth century. The Winter Nelis pear tree arrived in the States from England in 1823. Winter Nelis pear is a great fruit in an relatively unattractive package. Aromatic, juicy, sweet, fine-flavored flesh inside dark green russeted skin. Ripens late and excellent keeper.
